The road to success runs through a Lane’s End sale consignment. That’s been the case year in and year out for the past 25 years, and 2010 has been another fruitful season for horses who were offered under our banner. Lane’s End has offered at sale a total of 23 stake winners in 2010, including a remarkable 12 at the graded level. Over Breeders’ Cup weekend, Lane’s End grads included Shared Account (PLEASANTLY PERFECT), who was all heart to stave off Midday (GB) by a neck in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. Shared Account was bred by the late William A. Carl and sold at the 2007 Keeneland September Sale. She was purchased by Bob Feld on behalf of Sagamore Farm. G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic third Fly Down and G3 Breeders’ Cup Marathon third A.U. Miner, both sons of MINESHAFT, were also sold by Lane’s End.

Our most recent juvenile star is Biondetti, who captured the G1 Gran Criterium at Milan in Italy and shipped to be fourth in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in his first try on dirt. Purchased by John Ferguson for $350,000 at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton July Sale, Biondetti was bred by Palides Investments NV Inc. and races for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin. Also unbeaten in Europe is the Lane’s End-sold Pathfork, a $240,000 September graduate from 2009, whose victories include the Group 1 Boylesports.com Vincent O’Brien National S. and the Group 2 Galileo E.B.F. Futurity S.

Leading the way for Lane’s End sales grads in the U.S. is QUALITY ROAD. Offered by Lane’s End at the 2007 Keeneland September Sale by his breeder Ned Evans, QUALITY ROAD set new track records last year while winning the G1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream and G2 Amsterdam S. at Saratoga, and continued his record-setting ways when lowering his own track record in Gulfstream’s G1 Donn H. earlier this year. Given a breather off that, QUALITY ROAD returned in the G1 Met Mile at Belmont May 31 and unleashed a tour de force, taking the race in wire-to-wire fashion in 1:33 flat. He battled to finish just a head short in the Grade 1 Whitney H., then got back into the winner’s circle with a 4 3/4-length tally in the G1 Woodward S. at Saratoga. QUALITY ROAD has now won eight of 13 and banked over $2.2 million.

GULCH‘s veteran turf star Court Vision, another Lane’s End grad, collected his fourth career Grade 1 win in the Woodbine Mile Sept. 19. The five-year-old, who also won the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf H. earlier this season, has surpassed the $2.5-million mark in earnings.

On the sophomore scene, a number of Lane’s End grads made noise on the Triple Crown trail. The aforementioned Fly Down ran away from Drosselmeyer in the G2 Dwyer S. at Belmont, then was getting to that foe when second in the G1 Belmont S. In the Midsummer Derby, the G1 Travers S., he lost a heartbreaking photo when second by a nose.

Morning Line, a $700,000 Keeneland September grad, emerged as a late-season threat with a break-out win in the $1-million G2 Pennsylvania Derby Sept. 25, then nearly held on to win the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile after helping set blistering fractions. He finished second by a head in the $1 million event. The son of A.P. INDY‘s daughter Indian Snow was bred by Dell Ridge Farm LLC.

Awesome Act, a $240,000 September yearling, was one of the crowd’s favorites for the G1 Kentucky Derby after an impressive win in the G3 Gotham S. and a third to Eskendereya in the G1 Wood Memorial S., while Endorsement, a $450,000 September yearling, was himself highly regarded for the Derby after a powerful three-length tally over Conveyance in the G3 Sunland Derby. The WinStar Farm colorbearer has already earned $430,000 during his young career. In California, Golden Itiz won the G3 Affirmed S. at Hollywood. The colt, bred by William A. Carl, was a $240,000 September grad.

Other 2010 stakes horses hailing from a Lane’s End consignment include Strike a Deal (SMART STRIKE), who pushed his earnings past $1 million with a victory in the G2 Dixie S. at Pimlico; Baletti (GULCH), who captured his first graded race in the G3 Fort Marcy S. at Aqueduct in April; Bonnie Blue Flag (MINESHAFT), winner of the $100,000 Cinemine S. and on the board in the G1 Prioress S. and G1 Test S.; and King of Dixie (KINGMAMBO), Peppi Knows (STEPHEN GOT EVEN), La Verita, Marie de Medici, Thiskyhasnolimit, etc.
