Mar. 19, 2011: ROCK HARD TEN’s son Doubles Partner added another graded stakes to his resume with a popular victory in this afternoon’s G3 Tampa Bay S. Sent off the 2-1 choice in the 1 1/16-mile grass affair at Tampa Bay Downs, the $450,000 FTSAUG graduate, bided his time off the leaders under Julien Leparoux and was still five or six lengths back at the top of the stretch. He uncorked a huge rally, though, closing with giant strides to get up and win by a neck. Doubles Partner also won last year’s G2 American Turf S. at Churchill Downs. On the same Tampa Bay card, ROCK HARD TEN’s daughter Rock Hard Baby won a grassy, two-turn MSW.
ROCK HARD TEN’s daughter Long Lashes continues to impress on the international circuit. Winner of the G3 Sweet Solera S. as a juvenile, the Godolphin-owned filly was recently third in the $200,000, G3 Balanchine S. going 1800 meters over Meyden’s turf course in Dubai.
With four graded/group stakes winners to his credit, including the New York graded winner Krypton and the California graded heroine ROCK HARD TEN is the leading fourth-crop sire in North America by that measure. And he is set for a big 2011, as he is the sire of the 2010 graded juveniles horses Alienation, Ten Devils, and Rockin Heat.
In a recent column, ROCK HARD TEN was touted by the TDN’s Bill Oppenheim as a 2011 value sire. Said Oppenheim, “F2007 sire Rock Hard Ten (Kris S.) has plenty of decent runners, including Grade/Group II and III winners….If he follows the usual Roberto sire line pattern and gets better as he goes along, this year’s price of $25,000 will look pretty righteous.”
