Sophomore sire ARAGORN (IRE)‘s three-year-old son Birdie Beats Par captured his second straight race in impressive fashion at Keeneland Apr. 20. Third to the highly touted Machen in a Fair Grounds maiden special weight in January, the $90,000 KEENOV weanling purchase graduated in a 5 1/2-furlong dash on the dirt in New Orleans Feb. 11. Sent off the public’s 7-5 choice in a six-furlong NW2L at Keeneland, he jumped out to lead through solid splits and turned it on late, drawing off to prevail by 3 1/4 lengths while completing the six furlongs in 1:09 flat.

April has seen ARAGORN represented by two new winners from his first crop, Debi’s Kid and Gilrean, while the $160,000 KEESEP yearling High Strider–a Lane’s End graduate–ran her record to two wins in four starts with a victory going a mile over Aqueduct’s sod Apr. 21. Aragorn is also the sire of the European group performer Fort Hastings (Ire), as well as Black Raja, who was three times a black-type performer as a juvenile.

ARAGORN is a top 20 sophomore sire, and it’s a smart bet that the son of Giant’s Causeway will only improve as his progeny get older. Aragorn is standing the 2011 season for a fee of $5,000. Call Lane’s End today to discuss a mating.
