A trio of Lane’s End-sired runners wore their hearts on their proverbial sleeves this weekend and walked away with graded triumphs for the effort. CITY ZIP’s always-game Unzip Me got things kicked off Friday at Del Mar. Searching for her 12th win in 21 starts and her 10th in 16 tries over grass, the 5-year-old filly was forced from her customary front-running ways when a slow start put her in fourth early. Spun widest into the lane, the chestnut closed like a rocket and was up to win by half a length. The Harris Farms, et al, homebred now has earnings of over $812,000.

On Sunday at Saratoga, the 2-year-old filly My Miss Aurelia, by SMART STRIKE, put in a similarly gutsy performance. Odds-on in the G2 Adirondack S. after an impressive maiden win at the Spa, the Stonestreet Stables and George Bolton colorbearer battled G2 winner Millionreasonswhy every step of the lane and refused to let that one go by, winning by a neck for the Steve Asmussen barn.

Later in the day, it was Cozi Rosie’s turn in the G2 John C. Mabee S. at Del Mar. An Ann and Jerry Moss homebred by PLEASANTLY PERFECT, the 4-year-old filly was well off the modest fractions being set by Wasted Tears, but unleashed a devastating inside run for jockey Garrett Gomez and surged late for her third graded victory. She has now been first or second in 8 of 13 and earned over $475,000.
