The 5-year-old Silverside, by PLEASANTLY PERFECT, dominated racing in Spain in 2010, earning four championships, including Horse of the Year honors. He recently took the show on the road, however, and became his sire’s latest group/graded winner in the G2 Goldene Peitsche at Baden-Baden. The six-furlong race is the premier sprint race in Germany and drew a strong international cast, but Silverside proved up to the challenge, drawing off to a 2 1/2-length decision. “He probably runs next on Champions Day at Ascot in October,” said winning trainer Frederic Sanchez.
A Lane’s End grad from the 2007 Keeneland September Sale, Silverside was bred in Virginia by Edward P. Evans, and is close kin to several horses selling from the Evans dispersal this fall. Included is the Grade 1-winning mare Malibu Prayer (Malibu Moon), Malibu Prayer’s stakes-winning dam Grand Prayer (Grand Slam), Grand Prayer’s half-sister Pleasant Lyrics (PLEASANT TAP), and the Grade 2-winning broodmare Tap Dance (PLEASANT TAP).
