The 2011 Keeneland September Yearling Sale closed its successful run recently, and leading all consignors by gross sales during the marathon event was Lane’s End. In all, 335 horses sold from the Lane’s End draft for over $27.4 million. It was, as always, our loyal clients that put us on top.

The dispersal of Edward P. Evans’s stock was a major driver at September, and a full-brother to Lane’s End’s exciting young stallion QUALITY ROAD fittingly helped lead the way for Lane’s End-consigned yearlings. HIp 183, an Elusive Quality colt out of Kobla (Strawberry Road {Aus}) and thus a half to three-time track-record-setter QUALITY ROAD, brought a bid of $650,000 from Fox Hill Farm rep Tom McGreevy.

Equalling that offer was a filly from another Lane’s End-handled dispersal, Saud bin Khaled’s Palides Investments N.V. Inc. Hip 55, a Street Sense half-sister to the Palides-bred G1SW Royal Delta, went to John Ferguson for $650,000, and was a proper tribute to Khaled’s breeding operation. Others to pass through the Lane’s End consignment included hip 160, a colt by Street Cry (Ire)–Commodities bred by longtime client G. Watts Humphrey who went to Shadwell for $550,000; and hip 136, a CANDY RIDE (ARG) half-sister to GISW Wickedly Perfect who was secured by Robert and Lawana Low for $535,000.

Lane’s End sires also were at the forefront at September. The top price of the auction was paid for A.P. INDY’s son out of the Deputy Minister mare Malka who went to a partnership including John and Jerry Amerman and Robert ‘Shel’ Evans for $1.4 million. A daughter of A.P. INDY–Private Gift from a Lane’s End family sold to Besilu Stables for $775,000, while a filly from the first crop of dual Horse of the Year Curlin–Tears I Cry was hammered down to West Point Thoroughbreds for $700,000.

Lane’s End would like to congratulate and thank all of our clients – sellers and buyers who made this another outstanding auction and wish you all the best of racing luck in the future!
