The 3-year-old colt Kinglet, by KINGMAMBO, stamped himself as the divisional leader in Dubai today with a stylish win in the G3 UAE 2000 Guineas at Meydan. The Godolphin colorbearer showed early last year he was a horse with talent, winning on debut at Newmarket in August and adding a Kempton conditions event by open lengths in October. He made his seasonal return for conditioner Mahmood Al Zarooni in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial Jan. 12 and was going well late to finish a half-length second to the Southern Hemisphere-bred Dark Matter (Aus), and was the 3-2 choice in Western pools to turn the tables despite the significant age difference. Under jockey Mickael Barzalona, he split horses decisively in the final 200 meters and strode home powerfully to register the decisive win. Bred by Darley, Kinglet was produced by the good American racemare Karen’s Caper (War Chant).
