“Deep Impact was also the star attraction at the foals session on Tuesday when Fudge let loose to snare the next top-priced lot, a filly by Deep Impact for $1.8m. The top-priced foal was also by Deep Impact and he sold for $3.09m to Japanese owner Hajime Satomi.

Fudge was elated with his buy and declared afterwards he expected the filly to later become a foundation mare at Waratah Farm. “She is the best horse in the catalogue for me, regardless of colts and fillies. She is a full-sister to Japanese Derby winner Deep Brillante and she has perfect conformation.” Fudge said he had not decided where the filly would be trained but stated he could ship her to Europe or keep her in Japan.

Fudge’s adviser in Japan was bloodstock agent David Ingordo, who recently visited the owner’s new training and breeding facility on the outskirts of Bowral and inspected his bloodstock.
