A week before what’s widely referred to as Super Saturday, Lane’s End enjoyed its own Super Saturday of sorts with stars by two of our stallions putting up inspired efforts. In one of the most exciting races of the year, last season’s Champion Juvenile Filly My Miss Aurelia, a daughter of SMART STRIKE, gamely rallied into dawdling fractions to overhaul and beat MG1SW Questing (GB) in the $1 million G1 Cotillion S. at Parx. Owned by Stonestreet Stables and George Bolton, the unbeaten My Miss Aurelia won the 2011 editions of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and G1 Frizette S. and has now earned in excess of $2 million. DIXIE UNION’s Dixie Strike, heroine of the Prince of Wales S. earlier in the year, finished third in the Cotillion.

In Delaware, it was ENGLISH CHANNEL’s son Optimizer who put on a show in the G3 Kent S. The Bluegrass Hall homebred, according to the TDN, “exchanged blows with Excaper while racing on the inside through testing early fractions of :22.71 and :46.99…gained a narrow lead at the top of the stretch and impressively kicked clear late to win for fun.” A son of A.P. INDY’s daughter Indy Pick, Optimizer becomes ENGLISH CHANNEL’s eight individual black-type winer and his second graded winner! ENGLISH CHANNEL is the second-leading second crop sire by 2012 stakes winners and stakes wins, and is the third-leading sire by earnings.
