It was a big Thanksgiving weekend for emerging star sire ENGLISH CHANNEL, who was represented by his ninth individual 2012 stakes winner when the 3yo filly Channel Lady launched a powerful rally to win the $80,000 Stardusk S. at Aqueduct Nov. 21. Improving her record to three wins in five starts, Channel Lady is owned by James Scatuorchio and JJ Pletcher and is trained by Todd Pletcher.

ENGLISH CHANNEL is North America’s third-ranked second-crop sire, and is the clear-cut second-ranked sire by SWs among sophomore stallions.

Another 3yo filly by ENGLISH CHANNEL, the Bluegrass Hall-bred Changethechannel, stamped herself as one to watch with a strong wire-to-wire victory in a Betfair Hollywood Park optional claimer Nov. 23, a win that earned her a smart 96 BRIS figure.

The 3yo colt Skyring, meanwhile, continues to be a rock-solid performer for owner/breeder Bluegrass Hall and trainer D. Wayne Lukas. The $100,000 James W. Murphy S. winner was beaten just 3/4 lengths when a third in the G3 River City H. at Churchill Downs Nov. 25 while facing older horses. The durable colt–making his 15th start of the year–also placed in this year’s G3 Saranac S. and G3 American Derby.

A day earlier at Churchill, Bluegrass Hall and Lukas teamed up to win a nine-furlong maiden special with the exciting 2yo colt Channel Isle, who got up as the favorite in the $50,000 event.

To top the weekend off, ENGLISH CHANNEL’s 3yo daughter Wrinkle Room, bred by Bluegrass Hall and owned by Matthew Nicholas, earned her diploma in a Golden Gate maiden.

ENGLISH CHANNEL is enjoying a huge 2012 season. His runners also include the Queen’s Plate hero Strait of Dover, the G2 Swaps S. winner Blueskiesnrainbows, the G3 Kent S. winner Optimizer, the Group 3 winner Sundance Kit, and the stakes winners The Pizza Man, Star Channel, and Trois Aureole.

ENGLISH CHANNEL is a Top 13 sire on the Leading Turf Sires list and is a Top 12 sire on the Leading Synthetic Sires list.

ENGLISH CHANNEL stands the 2013 season at Lane’s End for a fee of $25,000.
