There’s no bigger stage in Thoroughbred racing than the prestigious Saratoga meet, and runners by LEMON DROP KID have excelled there this summer.
On Aug. 14 and 15, LEMON DROP KID enjoyed back-to-back stakes winners at the Spa. First, the smart 3yo colt Balance the Books lived up to his favoritism by rallying to win the $100,000 Stroll S. going nine furlongs on the turf.
A day later, the 5yo Hangover Kid, coming off a strong third-place effort in the G1 United Nations H., launched a last-to-first bid in the $150,000 West Point S.
On Aug. 17, the 4yo Nutello, winner of the Listed Le Vase d’Argent S. in France this year and placed in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club last season, made an auspicious stateside debut with a strong third-place showing in the G1 Sword Dancer S.
To top it off, on Aug. 18, Candy Kitty, 2yo filly by LEMON DROP KID who sold for $185,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Sale, led nearly every step to win an $85,000, 1 1/16-mile turf maiden special at Saratoga.
