LEMON DROP KID registered his 75th stakes winner on Saturday, Mar. 22 when the 3-year-old filly Aurelia’s Belle drew off to a convincing 2 1/4-length score in the G3 Pure Romance Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway.
Owned by James Miller and trained by Wayne Catalano, Aurelia’s Belle became LEMON DROP KID’s 29th graded stakes winner, and now sits in fourth on the Kentucky Oaks points leaderboard, following her placings in three straight down at Gulfstream, in the G2 Forward Gal S., G2 Davona and G3 Old Hat S. Catalano confirmed Aurelia’s Belle will start next in the Oaks.
LEMON DROP KID is also the sire of two other promising 3yo stakes winners in 2014. The colt Kid Cruz was a last-to-first, four-length winner of the $100,000 Private Terms S. at Laurel Mar. 8.
Candy Kitty, meanwhile, won the $100,000 Ginger Brew S. at Gulfstream in January and then came back to be second in the G3 Herecomesthebride S. Mar. 2.
Among his older horses, LEMON DROP KID has been represented by the graded winner Somali Lemonade, runner-up in the G3 Marshua River S. at Gulfstream Jan. 4.
Keep an eye out for LEMON DROP KID’s juveniles at the Keeneland April on Monday, Apr. 7. He has three on offer, including a colt from Sequel Bloodstock who breezed an eighth in :9 4/5. The colt was produced by a stakes-placed half to MGSW Runway Model.
