FIRST FOAL FOR LANE’S END SIRE UNIFIED

Thu, 01/10/2019 - 16:35

The first foal by freshman Lane’s End stallion arrived Thursday, Jan. 10. The colt, who was bred by Colby Marks, was born at Stonehaven Steadings in Versailles, Kentucky.

The colt is out of Proud Citizen mare Citizen by Day, who is a full-sister to the graded stakes winning 2012 Derby fourth place finisher Went The Day Well. She hails from the family of G2 winner and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies runner-up Sweet Roberta and multiple G1 winner Brody’s Cause.

“High quality colt, I think I’ll breed the mare back to Unified,” said Marks.

Unified, a three-time graded stakes winner by Lane’s End sire Candy Ride, had an impressive racing career that showed speed and promise from the start. He went undefeated in his first three starts and posted a 99 Beyer on his debut—the highest of his generation. His graded stakes victories include the G2 Bay Shore Stakes, the G2 Peter Pan Stakes and the G3 Gulfstream Park Stakes, where he posted a career high 101 Beyer and defeated multiple G1 winner Mind Your Biscuits. He was also a close runner up in the G1 Carter Handicap, finishing only a neck behind the winner.

With an impressive book of 154 mares in his first year at stud, Unified looks to continue his sire Candy Ride's success at Lane’s End.
