“Morgan’s Ford Farm’s homebred Get Serious indicated in his previous race that he was rounding back into top form, and on Wednesday the classy City Zip gelding completed his comeback with a game half-length victory in the $101,000 Red Bank Stakes (G3) at Monmouth Park, scoring his third career win in the race.

Get Serious had not visited the winner’s circle in six races since annexing the 2010 Red Bank at Monmouth, held in the fall that year. He was unplaced in five straight starts before showing improvement in the Monmouth Handicap (G2) on June 10, where he competed into deep stretch before settling for third behind Data Link and Get Stormy.

On Wednesday, Get Serious set a contested pace under Pablo Fragoso through a half-mile in :46.76, dueled with fellow front-runner El Commodore on his outside into the stretch, and held off that foe in the late stages to win in an impressive effort. Get Serious covered one mile in 1:32.63 on firm turf as the 5.20-to-1 fifth choice in the six-horse field.
