A world of ability. A world of pedigree. A world of potential. A grade one winner by a Champion siring classic winner, out of a grade one winner, and in foal to War Front, Last Full Measure is a young mare with everything in place to make an impact anywhere in the world.

A maiden and multiple allowance winner at two and three, Last Full Measure hinted at her class with thirds in the 8½ furlong Endeavour Stakes (gr. III) and nine furlong Cardinal Handicap (gr. III). Tackling contentious fields on both occasions, she accounted for grade one winner Hooh Why, and stakes winners Blue Heart, Sweet Little Lion, My Redbyrd, Awesome Belle and Callmethesqueeze in the Endeavour Stakes, while in the Cardinal Handicap, a race won by grade one scorer Daisy Devine, she defeated graded stakes winners Indian Pond, Fugitive Angel, Bizzy Caroline and La Cloche and stakes winner Revelstock.

As commendable as these efforts were, it was not until Last Full Measure’s final outing that the depth of her talents were truly revealed. The Madison Stakes (gr. I) – one North America’s most important contests for distaff sprinters – gave Last Full Measure the opportunity to compete at less than a mile for the first time in her career.  The result was a thrilling performance, which saw Last Full Measure surge from last-to-first to gain a dramatic victory. Behind her came grade one winner Byrama, graded stakes winners Holiday For Kitten and Shumoos, and stakes winners Queen’s Award and Dr. Diamonds Prize.

Last Full Measure’s sire, Empire Maker, staked a strong claim to be regarded as the most talented member of his crop at three, taking the Florida Derby (gr. I), Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I) and Belmont Stakes (gr. I), and defeating Champion Three-Year-Old Colt, Funny Cide, in both the Wood Memorial and Belmont. Empire Maker rapidly established himself as a leading sire, and he is now responsible for nearly 50 stakes winners, 28 graded, and 11 of them grade one, including three-time Eclipse Award laureate, Royal Delta; exciting young sire Pioneerof the Nile; four-time grade one scorer Emollient; as well as Bodemeister, Grace Hall, Acoma, Mushka, In Lingerie and Icon Project.  Empire Maker has been a tremendous sire of fillies, and is out of the great producer, Toussaud: combined, these factors make him an exceptionally exciting prospect as a broodmare sire.

Last Full Measure’s dam is the exceptionally talented Seattle Slew granddaughter, Lazy Slusan. A ten-time stakes winner and millionaire, Lazy Slusan defeated Breeders’ Cup Distaff (gr. I) heroine, Spain, to take the Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap (gr. I), and was a daylight winner under top-weight in the Milady Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. I).

Last Full Measure’s second dam, stakes placed Three Flights Up, is a daughter of another stakes performer, in Menage a Trois. By Cyane, from a daughter of renowned foundation mare, Enchanted Eve, Menage a Trois is a sister or three-quarters sister to a remarkable group of performers and producers. Among them are Futurity Stakes victor Salem, and graded scorers Pumpkin Moonshine, Misgivings and Tingle Stone, as well as mares from whom descend such as English 1,000 Guineas (gr. I) victress Wince, and grade one scorers Broom Dance, Contredance, Skimming, Marketing Mix, Quiff, Pryka, Colonial Colony and Rutherienne. In addition, Enchanted Eve is also ancestress of French Derby (gr. I) captor Polytain, from another branch of this international important family.

Last Full Measure is dam of a 2014 colt by Tapit, her first foal, and is offered back in foal to War Front. One of the most sought-after sires in the world, War Front has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the stallion ranks. From his first five crops, none sired at a fee of more than $15,000, this astonishing son of Danzig has already sired 32 stakes winners, 17 of them graded, among them group and graded one winners The Factor, Declaration of War, Data Link, War Command, Summer Soiree and Peace And War. Out of a mare by a son of Unbridled, Last Full Measure’s War Front foal will by bred on the same cross as War Front’s millionaire, Warning Flag.

Beyond the sheer quality of her athletic talent, and of her pedigree, Last Full Measure is also intriguing for her potential to produce top-class runners of almost any kind, and in any racing environment. Her sire and dam were both exceptional performers on dirt, and Last Full Measure is a graded stakes performer at up to nine furlongs on turf, and a grade one winner sprinting on an all-weather track. We can also note that like Last Full Measure’s sire, Empire Maker, her covering sire, War Front, has already been represented by grade one winners on dirt, turf and all-weather surfaces.
