TWIRLING CINNAMON (c, 2, Twirling Candy– Cinnamon Charlie {SW}, by Indian Charlie) added a third winning tally for his freshman sire with a rallying score at Churchill Downs Friday afternoon. Overlooked at odds of 6-1 despite a series of swift local gate workouts, the dark bay raced in mid-pack behind moderate fractions of :22.65 and :46.24. He patiently waited for running room behind a wall of horses turning for home and kicked on to tag Metal Magic (Yes It=s True) on the wire by a nose. The winner sold for $180,000 as a KEESEP yearling. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $28,620.

UPTOWN TWIRL (f, 2,¬†Twirling Candy–Sambuca Classica, by Cat Thief), a $110,000 KEESEP yearling who developed into a $630,000 OBSMAR 2-year-old after breezing a furlong in¬†:10, was hammered down to 1-2 favoritism in this debut for a barn known for its success with first timers. Seizing the early advantage under a motionless Victor Espinoza, the bay clocked an opening quarter in :22.09 from the fence with fellow firster Tiz a Tommy Town (Speightstown) breathing down her neck. Tiz a Tommy Town drew even with the favorite turning for home and the pair battled their way down the length of the stretch. Uptown Twirl determinedly pulled clear of that rival in the dying strides for a gritty half-length success. She became the second winner for her freshman sire (by Candy Ride {Arg}); and is a half-sister to Anytime Magic (Fusaichi Pegasus), MSW, $145,330. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $33,600.
