Leading stud farm Lane’s End has acquired an interest in Teresa Viola Racing Stables’ LIAM’S MAP. Impressive winner of this year’s Grade 1 Woodward Stakes, LIAM’S MAP is the likely favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile to take place at Keeneland October 30th.
Held in high regard at every stage of his life, LIAM’S MAP was an $800,000 Keeneland September yearling. LIAM’S MAP followed up on that promise breaking his maiden by over 9 lengths with a 98 Beyer. He capped off his 3-year-old year with a gutsy performance defeating older graded stakes horses in the listed Harlan’s Holiday S. at Gulfstream while posting an outstanding 112 Beyer.
LIAM’S MAP has emerged as one of the best older horses in the country. Valiant runner up in the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap while posting a 113 Beyer, LIAM’S MAP returned less than a month later to win the 1 1/8 mile Woodward in 1:47 2/5, the fastest time since 2004 for the historic race. His 114 Beyer in that race represents the co-highest Beyer speed figure this year.
“We’re thrilled to be involved with a horse of the quality of LIAM’S MAP.” said Will Farish. “The Woodward is a very important race and we’ve been very lucky with past winners like Quality Road, Saint Liam and Lemon Drop Kid that have gone on to be very successful stallions. His speed figures are unbelievable. His ability to go that fast that far is uncanny. He’s only the 2nd wire to wire winner of that race in over 20 years while posting one of the best times in recent memory.”
Farish continued “Vincent and Teresa Viola are very prominent in the Thoroughbred business today. We are very excited to stand their first stallion at stud, especially a horse the caliber of LIAM’S MAP.”
Owner Teresa Viola said “I have loved Liam since the day we bought him. He has been a very special horse to our family. Vinnie and I plan on doing everything we can to help him succeed at stud. We are thrilled to have him going to Lane’s End, the home of so many great stallions.”
Bred by Albaugh Family Stable, LIAM’S MAP is the 2nd foal out of the G3 winning, track record setting mare Miss Macy Sue who was a winner 11 times over four seasons with earnings in excess of $800,000. Miss Macy Sue traces back to the hugely influential mare Aspidistra, the foundation mare responsible for the likes of Dr. Fager and Unbridled. LIAM’S MAP’s pedigree also contains 4 strains from Ta Wee, one of the best female sprinters in history.
