7th-MTH, $36,120, Msw, 8-26, 2yo, f, 5 1/2f, 1:04.89, ft. MIDNIGHT UNION (f, 2, Union Rags–Midnight Visit {SW, $141,140}, by Henny Hughes) flashed early speed and tired badly to finish a well-beaten eighth at odds of 3-1 in her unveiling at Parx July 24. Adding Lasix here, the 9-1 shot was hustled to the front by Paco Lopez from her inside draw, began to let it out a notch as they straightened for home and drew off in the stretch to graduate by 3 3/4 lengths. Tiz Rude (Tiznow) was second. Midnight Union, the first foal out of her stakes-winning dam, becomes the fourth winner for her freshman sire (by Dixie Union). Midnight Visit also has a yearling filly by Bernardini; a weanling filly by Lookin At Lucky; and was bred back to Uncle Mo. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $21,020. Sales history: $105,000 RNA Wlg ’14 KEENOV; $27,000 Ylg ’15 KEESEP.

Freshman sire UNION RAGS registered his third winner—and third in maiden special company—over the weekend.

It was the first-timer No Dozing who raised eyebrows with a sharp win at Delaware Park. The colt, bred and raced by Lael Stables’s Roy and Gretchen Jackson, went postward a 4-1 chance for trainer Arnaud Delacour, but didn’t do himself any favors when he unseated his rider and ran off prior to the start.

Corralled before expending too much energy, the colt was much more professional once the gate sprang. He sat a good tracking spot off the leaders, then swooped to best the favored Hold Me Black by two lengths.

UNION RAGS is also the sire of the filly Silver Threads, winner at Monmouth Park; and Lady Stardust, who won at Aqueduct.

Meanwhile, at Saratoga, UNION RAGS had a pair of colts bring good money. A son of Baby Bird made $225,000 to the bid of Spendthrift Farm. That followed the sale of a son of Happily Unbridled to Ruis Racing LLC for $175,000.

Watch for more exceptional yearlings by UNION RAGS at Keeneland September!
