In the last week, CANDY RIDE (ARG) has had two exciting maiden special winners and a Grade 1 performance from daughter Tiger Ride to kick off the fall racing season in proper fashion.
Tiger Ride put up a strong effort to finish second to Forever Unbridled in last Saturday’s G1 Beldame S. at Belmont Park Oct. 1. Owned and bred by Dixiana Farms, the 4-year-old tracked the Grade 1 winners Paloa Queen and Off the Tracks early, shot through a narrow opening along the rail in mid-stretch and finished full of run for place honors.
Winner of last year’s G3 Pin Oak Valley View S. at Keeneland, Tiger Ride is trained by Graham Motion and has now earned over $495,000.
On the same afternoon, the 2-year-old colt Hootie flew home to an impressive first-out win at Santa Anita Park. The Michael McCarthy-trained youngster was last but one early in the mile contest on the grass, but parlayed a sweeping six-wide move into a half-length tally.
Hootie completed the distance in 1:35.19 and shaded :12 for his final eighth. He’s owned by Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren, Jr., and was a $300,000 acquisition at OBS March.
On Oct. 2 at Belmont, CANDY RIDE (ARG)’s 3-year-old son Mighty Moses graduated in style for the Rudy Rodriguez stable. The crowd’s 7-2 chance, racing in the Zayat Stables colors, pressed the pace from the outside and powered home a clear-cut three-length winner. The final time for the 6 1/2-furlong distance was a snappy 1:16.19.
CANDY RIDE (ARG) is currently #5 on the Leading Sires List with over $8.9 million in progeny earnings. He has 7 graded winners to his credit, including the star 3-year-old Gun Runner.
