The first foal for Classic winner and G1 Cigar Mile winner TONALIST was born Jan. 16 at WinStar Farm. Danette, a Grade 1 performer by Curlin, had a strong, healthy filly by TONALIST for breeder Repole Stable.

TONALIST bred 138 mares in his first year at stud in 2016 and is drawing strong attention at his 2017 fee of $30,000.

Danette was still a maiden when she ran third in the G1 Chandelier S. at two, just before a finishing fifth—beaten only two lengths by winner Take Charge Brandi—in the 2014 G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita. Mike Repole’s Repole Stable recently purchased Danette for $300,000 at the 2016 Keeneland November Sale.

Tonalist was a Top 5 covering sire among freshman in 2016, with 17 of his 26 mares on offer averaging $115,000.

By the great Tapit, TONALIST defeated California Chrome and 10 others in the 2014 G1 Belmont S., prior to the first of his two wins in the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup. In 2015, TONALIST unleashed a furious rally to win the G1 Cigar Mile over a field that included the top-class runners Mshawish and Private Zone.
