Breeders’ Cup champion LIAM’S MAP got his first foal on Jan. 16, a filly from a full-sister to the Grade 2 winner Prospective.
The filly was born at Manchester Farm to the winning 6-year-old mare Enhanced, daughter of the SW Spirited Away (Awesome Again). Enhanced is a Malibu Moon full to Prospective, the talented Mark Casse-trained colt who won the G2 Tampa Bay Derby and G3 Ohio Derby.
LIAM’S MAP stood his first season at Lane’s End in 2016 after a stellar racing career for trainer Todd Pletcher and owners Teresa Viola Racing Stables and West Point Thoroughbreds.
An $800,000 yearling from the wickedly fast graded winner Miss Macy Sue, LIAM’S MAP won 6 of 8 starts and earned over $1,358,940. He rose to national prominence with a too-good-too-lose performance in the 2015 G1 Whitney H., when he set :22.79, :46.00 and 1:09.66 splits against a stellar field before just being caught in the final stride by HONOR CODE.
LIAM’S MAP came back to win the G1 Woodward S. as the heavy favorite, then lived up to his 1-2 advanced billing in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, becoming one of the shortest-priced winners of the historic event with a facile off-the-pace score. LIAM’S MAP’s final tine for the Dirt Mile, 1:34.54, established a new track record at Keeneland.
LIAM’S MAP’s pedigree gained further luster in 2016 when his younger half-brother Not This Time won the G3 Iroquois S. and ran second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
LIAM’S MAP was the #3 covering sire among freshman in 2016 with 18 sold for a median of $137,500. Individuals in foal to LIAM’S MAP sold for $450,000, $300,000, $235,000, etc.
