With $7,134,574 in cumulative earnings, Lane’s End Stallion Union Rags (Dixie Union—Tempo, by Gone West), is third on the North American third-crop sire list, trailing Dialed In by less than $6,000 and leader Bodemeister by less than $7,500. A more telling statistic shows that, when excluding the leading earner by each stallion—Always Dreaming for Bodemeister, Gunnevera for Dialed In and Paradise Woods for Union Rags—Union Rags is number one on the third-crop sire list by earnings with $6,394,000. He is followed by Shackleford with $5,323,000 and Creative Cause in third with $5,318,000. Dialed In ranks in eighth with $4,213,000 and Bodemeister 10th with $4,797,000 in earnings.
Union Rags is amongst the top four North American third-crop sires in every significant category, whether it be ranked by cumulative or year-to-date statistics. The Classic winner is currently North America’s top third-crop sire by graded stakes winners and graded stakes horses with nine and six, respectively. With a total of four Grade 1 victories to his credit, Union Rags leads all third-crop sires worldwide in that category as well as in Grade 1 horses with six—top European sire Frankel (GB) is second in both categories with two Group 1 winners and five Group 1 stakes horses.
With leading runners Paradise Woods, Tequilita and Free Drop Billy gearing up for major summer campaigns, as well as a new crop of juveniles about to hit the track, it appears that Union Rags’ on-track success shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Union Rags stands the 2018 season at Lane’s End Farm for $60,000 stands and nurses.
