The Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale, one of the top yearling sales of the season, will showcase a number of first-crop yearlings by Lane’s End stallions Honor Code, Tonalist and Liam’s Map.
Honor Code, who is from the last crop of A.P. Indy, saw some of his best career wins just down the street at Saratoga Race Course. He won the G1 Whitney S. at top weight and earned a 113 Beyer as a four-year-old and became just the ninth horse in history to win the Met Mile and Whitney in the same season.
There are a total of nine lots by the multiple Grade 1 winning Honor Code catalogued for next week’s sale. Of his first yearling offerings in Saratoga, hip 241 from the Hill ’n’ Dale consignment catches the eye. The colt is out of multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Hollywood Story and is a half-sibling to the stakes-winning Miss Hollywood and the graded stakes-placed Hollywood Star. Hip 79 is one of five fillies by Honor Code in the sale; she is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Egg Drop.
Liam’s Map, a speedy son Unbridled’s Song, won the G1 Woodward at Saratoga and now will have his first-crop of yearlings at the Saratoga Select Sale. The gray boasts a career record of six victories and two seconds from eight starts with earnings over $1.35 million. The gray won three black-type events, including the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, where he set a new track record at Keeneland. Liam’s Map is out of the stakes-winning Trippi mare Miss Macy Sue and is a half to stakes winner Taylor S.
Liam’s Map has 11 yearlings catalogued for the select sale with nine fillies and two colts. Hip 2 is out of G1 Princess Rooney victress Jessica is Back, while hip 63 is out of the graded winner Passion. The well-bred hip 81 from the Chilly Bleak consignment hails from the family of G1 winner Siphonic and millionaire Summer Front.
Classic winner Tonalist, who went through the ring here in 2012, will see his first yearlings sell at Saratoga. The four-time Grade 1 winner was one of the top horses from his crop with six graded wins and earnings over $3.6 million. Tonalist is by Champion sire Tapit and descends from the female family of Champion sprinter Plugged Nickel, multiple Grade 1 winner Riskaverse and Horse of the Year Havre de Grace.
The first-crop stallion has three colts and two fillies in the sale. Hip 141 is a half-sibling to Grand Adventure from the Summerfield consignment, while Hip 95 is a half-sibling to graded winner Bryan’s Jewel.
The Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale will be held Aug. 6 and 7 in Saratoga Springs, New York.
