Lane’s End sires accounted for three of the six Sunshine Millions races this past weekend at Gulfstream, led by a pair of winners by ENGLISH CHANNEL.
Parranda, a two-time stakes winner at Gulfstream last fall, notched her third victory in her last four starts in the $150,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf S. The 5yo mare drove clear to a three-length win while completing the nine-furlong distance in 1:47 4/5. Parranda is owned by Lone Stable LLC and trained by Rodolfo Garcia. She’s now won 7 of 19 and earned $358,655.
In the $150,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Turf S., Star Channel, a 5yo horse by ENGLISH CHANNEL, tucked in behind the leaders, split horses at the quarter pole and outfought Grade 2 winner Old Time Hockey to the wire. Star Channel, a $175,000 2yo-in-training, is owned by Alastar Thoroughbred Company LLC and trained by Eddie Kenneally.
One race earlier, Kenneally had saddled Ullapool, a 5yo mare by Lane’s End’s dependable sire LANGFUHR, to a stylish wire-to-wire win in the $150,000 Sunshine Millions F/M Sprint.
ENGLISH CHANNEL leads the nation by stakes winners this year. His four 2014 stakes winners also include the Lane’s End sales grad Blueskiesnrainbows, who made all in the G2 San Pasqual S. at Santa Anita.
ENGLISH CHANNEL now has a superb 13 stakes winners from his first crop—a world-class 12.1% of his named foals from that crop. Call today for a season to this very “hot sire” as the Daily Racing Form called him!
