Lane’s End today announced the 2018 stud fees for Candy Ride ($80,000), Quality Road ($70,000) and Union Rags ($60,000).

The announcement comes after an outstanding Breeders’ Cup weekend that saw all three sires represented by Grade 1 performers at Del Mar. These performances were highlighted by Gun Runner’s (Candy Ride (Arg)) dominating display in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) beating the best of his generation and in doing so, essentially securing Horse of the Year honors.

Earlier that same day, Quality Road’s Caledonia Road proved to be too good in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) with an impressive 3 ¼ length victory. A day earlier, Quality Road’s 4x Grade 1 and Kentucky Oaks winner Abel Tasman was a game second in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) with Paradise Woods, the dual Grade 1 winning daughter of Union Rags, a length behind in third.

“Our stallions have enjoyed gratifying success across the board this year.” said Bill Fairsh. “Led by Candy Ride, Union Rags and Quality Road who all had a fantastic weekend at the Breeders’ Cup.”

Candy Ride today sits as the leading general active sire and has done so consistently throughout 2017 thanks to seven graded stakes winners earning over $14 million.

Caledonia Road’s romp in the Juvenile Fillies (G1) secured Quality Road’s fifth grade 1 winner who is currently the leading fourth crop sire. With such great success on the racetrack, buyers were in high demand for his yearling progeny in the sales ring with sales up to $1 million at Keeneland September.

The same can be said for Union Rags who recorded a seven-digit sale of his own at OBS April. He has produced four grade 1 winners from just two crops of racing age helping him to the leading second crop sire spot for black-type winners, graded stakes winners, grade 1 stakes horses, etc.

“Competing at the highest level on the world stage is what we have always strived to achieve here at Lane’s End.” said Bill Farish. “We are grateful for our wonderful partners and breeders and look forward to sharing in continued success for many years to come.”
