Gary Barber, Michael Ambler and Windways Farm’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Champion Catch A Glimpse made her 2016 debut a winning one in Saturday’s Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes at Gulfstream Park. The sophomore daughter of City Zipcovered the 1 1/16 miles over the firm turf course in 1:42.63 for trainer Mark Casse.

Normally a strong frontrunner, Catch A Glimpse found herself second behind Vieja Luna in the early going, but the former relaxed fairly well under jockey Florent Geroux to wait 1 1/4 lengths off the solid early pace of :23.96 and :49.10. Lira stalked the pace two lengths behind that pair in third. Entering the final turn, Catch A Glimpse took hold of the bridle to move beside Vieja Luna as Lira made her move up the outside.

A slight bobble in her form, Catch A Glimpse changed leads early and carried Lira out several paths as the pair entered the stretch. That loss of focus did not affect the result, as Catch A Glimpse drew off to win by 2 1/2 lengths over Lira in a clear second. Gone Away closed from mid-pack to finish third.

“I was loaded [going into the far turn],” said Geroux. “Going into the elbow she pointed her ears and lost focus just a little bit, then she just galloped home easy.”

“I think she was going so fast around the turn she kind of bore out a little,” said Assistant Trainer Norm Casse. “She’s still learning and not 100 percent professional. But she’s obviously very talented and she’ll get even better as she goes on. It was good (return) and we’re excited to have her back, and we look to moving forward from here.”

Bred in Kentucky by Branch Equine out of the stakes-winning Halo River, Catch A Glimpse was a $75,000 purchase at the Keeneland September Sale. The filly has now won four of five races for her connections, and boasts a $760,000 career bankroll.
