Feb. 6, 2017

Lane’s End’s dynamic duo of UNION RAGS and THE FACTOR, with their first runners now three, each had an outstanding weekend at the track to kick off February.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, UNION RAGS got the third graded winner from his initial crop when the filly Tequilita won the G2 Forward Gal S. at Gulfstream. Tequilita beat a deep field, including the runner-up and G1SW Pretty City Dancer.

A Dorothy A. Matz homebred, Tequilita is trained by Michael Matz—who trained UNION RAGS to wins in the G1 Belmont S. and G1 Champagne S. Tequilita was making her graded and seasonal debut after taking Laurel’s Smart Halo S. in November.

UNION RAGS is also the sire of the G1 Darley Alcibiades S. victress Dancing Rags and of the G1 Del Mar Debutante winner Union Strikes. His son No Dozing, meanwhile, was second in the G2 Remsen S.

UNION RAGS was the #2 First-Crop Sire of 2016 and is now the #1 Second-Crop Sire of 2017! Keep an eye out for juveniles by UNION RAGS at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale, where he has no fewer than five cataloged.

THE FACTOR also boasted of a Grade 1 winner from his first crop—the G1 Chandelier S. heroine Noted and Quoted—and on Feb. 4 he added another stakes winner to his resume. That after the 3-year-old filly Delphinia improved to 2-for-3 with a dominating win in the Cincinnati Trophy S. at Turfway Park.

Fresh off a daylight score in a Gulfstream maiden special Dec. 17, Delphinia drove clear to a seven-length win in the Cincinnati Trophy for trainer Wesley Ward and owners Stonestreet Stable and Fog City Stable. She earned a smart 87 Beyer Figure for the win, second highest on the year for a sophomore filly.

A day later, THE FACTOR’s 3-year-old colt Cistron stamped himself as one to watch with a head victory in a one-mile allowance/optional claimer on the turf at Santa Anita.

THE FACTOR is also the sire of the unbeaten phenom Fact Finding. That $525,000 juvenile-in-training debuted a winner at Saratoga, added a Keeneland allowance, then romped by seven lengths in the Smooth Air S. at Gulfstream Dec. 10. He hasn’t raced since, but hasn’t missed a beat working every seven days for the Todd Pletcher barn down at Palm Beach Downs.

THE FACTOR was the #6 First-Crop Sire in 2016 and is currently the #6 Second-Crop Sire in 2017. And the best is yet to come from this dynamic son of War Front!
