Campaigned by St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, C. Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable, Deterministic debuted with style at two winning a maiden special weight at Saratoga on the dirt earning the title of “TDN Rising Star” for trainer Christophe Clement.
Deterministic started his 3-year-old campaign sharply with a win in the Grade 3 Gotham S., going one mile on the dirt at Aqueduct. Later that year he returned to the winner’s circle, following a switch to turf, in the Grade 3 New Kent County Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs.
Deterministic has remained undefeated since May 3, 2025 beginning his win streak with a 4 1/2 length victory in the Grade 2 Fort Marcy S. He made his next start on the Belmont undercard in the 1 1/8 mile Grade 1 Manhattan S., giving his new trainer Miguel Clement his first Grade 1 win after taking over training duties following his father’s passing. Deterministic remained in Saratoga for his next Grade 1 victory and returned to the mile distance in the Fourstardave S., earning his first pair of back-to-back Grade 1 victories.
His 2026 season has replicated his success in 2025, beginning his campaign with a repeat victory in the Grade 3 Fort Marcy S. Deterministic then headed back to Saratoga and the winner’s circle, once again proving his class in the $1,000,000 Grade 1 Manhattan S. A repeat victory in the Grade 1 Fourstardave S. capped off his second pair of consecutive Grade 1 wins and brings his current earnings to $3,047,265. He earned the highest of his five consecutive triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures for this victory with a 104.
These wins marked a historic achievement for Deterministic as the only horse to win both the Grade 1 Manhattan S. and Grade 1 Fourstardave S. in the same year, for two consecutive years.
Bred in Kentucky by Hinkle Farms, Deterministic is by top 10 sire Liam’s Map. A $625,000 yearling purchase, Deterministic is out of Giulio’s Jewel, by Speightstown. Giulio’s Jewel hails from the tail female line of Courtly Dee through multiple graded stakes winner Aquilegia, a full sister to Champion 2-year-old filly Althea. Other notable winners in the family are Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Bayern, and a plethora of graded stakes winners including Rabbit Run, Rainha Da Bateria, Kindergarden Kid, and Assateague.
